Concept done for helping parents to feed their babies outside home
The briefing given by the company was to design a product that would help the caretaker to prepare the baby's milk outside home.
To understand the problems in the process of preparing food outside home, several researches were conducted by a group of 6 students, including interviews with parents at the furniture retailer IKEA and a group meeting with mothers at Delft's public library.
It was also done a lot of internet research to get more familiar with ergonomics, cultural and health issues involved in a product designed for babies and parents.
In the second part of the project, each of the students should design a different product based on their own vision.
It's the time that the breastmilk lasts in room temperature
Parents should be able to spend long periods with their babies outside home. But many of them gets too stressed when going out with their babies since it's too impractical to feed them outside and prefer to spend more time inside home.
Parents should be able to prepare the milk at home, where they have the support from several products such as the breast pump and the bottle warmer and after that, the milk should be transported in a safe and practical way wherever they are going.
The Natural Bag is a disposable plastic bag designed to transport the milk outside in a safe and practical way. It keeps the milk fresh and take less space in the baby's bag. Parents can take as many as they need depending on the period they want to spend outside.
A prototype was done to determine the Natural Bag's measurements and to evaluate the process of preparing the baby's milk.
The user test was done with a mother of a baby of 17 months.
1-Piece used for fitting the Natural Bag in the breast pump
2-Buttons used for fitting the Natural Bag in the fitting piece
3-Double zipper for more safety
The Natural Bag is made of BPA free low density polyethylene by a heat sealing process. It has 130 x 185 mm and carries 220 ml of milk.
The Natural Bag is made by a color changing plastic that tells when the milk is getting spoiled. To the plastic is added a ph indicator dye that feels when the milk is getting acid and reacts changing it's color.
Above it's possible to see a prototype done by Dr. A. Pacquit and collaborators that uses ph indicators dyes that are sensitive to volatile amines associated with fish spoilage.
1-Upload your image
2-Type the name of your baby and choose the font
3-Choose the color of the information area
The bag should be purchased at Philips AVENT's website in packages of 180, 360 or 720 bags.
When purchasing, the mother or the father can personalize the bags by uploading an image, writing the name of the baby and creating an area for noting the date and quantity of milk. This will be printed in the plastic bags.
Personalized bags makes not only the parent's life easier. At the daycare, for example, will be easier for the caretaker to know whose is each plastic bag.
1-Express the milk using the fitting piece
2-Seal the bag using the double zipper
3-Store the milk in the freezer or take it in the baby's bag
4-When in need to feed the baby, rip the top part off using the cropped part
5-Pour the milk into the bottle using the easy to use aperture
Those three are Fabiana Nigol, Everaldo Pato and their daughter Nalu. She is a filmaker and he is a surfer. Together they travel the world looking for amazing places for surfing. Those trips are recorded by Fabiana and are shown in a brazilian tv series. When Nalu was born, six years ago, they decided to keep with their lifestyle and the little baby would follow them in every trip.
It's clear that not many babies have the same lifestyle as Nalu, but I wanted to give this feeling of freedom and independency to every parent.
